*Read excerpt from The Iroquois Constitution, pp 26-28.
*Answer the critical reading questions on page 28. For question 5 (b), be sure to explain your answer using examples.
*Read the introduction to and the text “Museum Indians” by Susan Power, pp 32-39.
*Answer questions 1-2 on page 34.
*Write down 5 examples of imagery from the text, “Museum Indians.” (Look for examples of similes, metaphors, and personification.) Underline the example that you like the most.
*Answer the critical reading questions on page 39.
*Jot down a few examples of symbols and images from your home or family that express part of who you are. (These are just notes to get you to start thinking—you don’t need to hand these in, but DO write them down. We’ll be working with these in class.)
* Read pages 56-62 in your anthology.
*Answer critical reading questions 1-4 on page 62. *Answer your pre-writing questions in preparation for next week’s writing assignment. (Next week’s writing assignment will be to rewrite this passage as it might have been told from the perspective of one of Columbus’ crew members writing in a personal journal.)
* Look for opportunities to use your vocabulary words. Use each one at least once this week. Write down when you used each one and in what context/sentence. Be prepared for a quick quiz over your words at the beginning of class.
