     1.  Read the poem, “There Came a Wind Like a Bugle” by Emily Dickinson.  Read it several times so that it will help you to understand its meaning.  Dig deep into each word!
     2.   The following summary will give you some perspective and help in understanding the poem.  READ these literary techniques on "There Came a Wind Like a Bugle:

     3.  Follow the instructions on your handout of “There Came a Wind…” to the letter.
     4.  Note how Emily chooses her words so carefully and specifically.  Each word has a design and purpose.  No wasted words here!  She tells a powerfully descriptive story in only 17 lines!  This helps by her usage of personification.  I want you to try out this poetic term in your poem this week and see how it makes your poem come alive!  Alliteration would be another good one to try!

     5.  Be sure to follow Poetry Rubric #2 precisely!  Note that there are a couple of changes on #5 & #9.   Happy Writing! scratch
      6.  For inspiration, you might want to watch Mr. Keating in Dead Poet Society inspire his students (see above youtube).  "Rip it out!  Learn to savor words and language; words and ideas can change the world!"  study
