* Read pages 126-138 in your anthology. Identify the "Names and Terms to Know" and answer the "Focus Questions" on page 127. (By “identify,” I mean write out the names and terms and define or identify and explain each one.)
*Read page 168 in your anthology, then read The Declaration of Independence (pages 170-173). Answer questions 2-5 on page 173.
* Read the excerpt from The Crisis (pages 174-176). Answer questions 1, 3, 4 and 5 on page 176.
*Write a response to the Declaration of Independence. Your response should be from the point of view of someone who is against American independence. (For example, you might take the point of view of a British loyalist living in America or the point of view of a member of the English parliament.) You should make your argument as persuasive as possible, building your case by appealing to both logic and emotion.
