I will be posting the art grades for the 3rd Quarter this week. As you all know I contacted everyone via email over Spring break and let each one know what I needed from you to give you the final grade for the 3rd Quarter, today was the deadline. I will let you all know when your grade is posted to Engrade.
This last grading period is going to go by quickly and I want to stress how important it is for you to stay engaged and to
get your work turned in on time. We have quite a few projects we will be doing and if you fall behind it is going to be hard to keep up. I also want to remind everyone there is an extra credit project that all students will be participating in and I have included info with this post that you may want to save print out and refer to as we get closer to the date for this.

It is worth 100 points. If the project is late, 10 points will be deducted automatically. Here are a few things to keep in mind while working on this project;
- the value should be obvious to see in your work. The lightest value goes in the middle of the curvy column, the darkest value on the edges and colors in between those two values. Oil pastels are easy to blend. if you are not sure what colors will look like together, try it on a scrap piece of paper first.
- stick with a color scheme that alternates between the curvy columns you create. Alternate between warm and cool color schemes. Within the column each space should look different from each space in what ever color scheme you chose to do in that column.
- stay within the lines you created with your sharpie, leave no white spaces.
- as you work with the pastels, they are soft and will pick up shavings from other colors, you can use a paper towel to clean the tips of the pastels off before switching colors.
- oil pastels are messy
, be sure to put down newspaper underneath your drawing, the shavings from the oil pastels will stick to tables etc.

Students and Parents,
It's hard to believe but we are in the last quarter and it won't be long till the end of the school year! This last quarter we are going to be quite busy with art projects and I want to encourage all of you to stay engaged in art and get your work turned in on time. We will be creating a lot of art work. This is going to be very important as you will understand once you read though this.
There will be an end of the year program. For extra credit all art students are required to participate in this event. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your original art work. Below are a few things to keep in mind for this to be a great success and for you to get the best possible grade for this extra credit project.
- each student is to display a total of 8 pieces of art work. Five of them must be an art project from the current school year. The other three can be art work completed outside of class, but need to be submitted to me first for final approval.
- the student is responsible for a proper display of the art work, which includes the following:
A black project board that the art work can be displayed on. If artwork is already framed that is okay as long as if can be displayed on a table easel. All other artwork can be displayed on the board. No messy edges on any art work if has been torn from an sketch pad.
All art work must be be displayed with a 3 by 5 card containing the title of the art work and the medium used to create the art work. For example if it is a painting you would list "acrylic paint" if you used a few different things to complete the work it would be "mixed media, ink and acrylic paint." If possible a date the work was created would be great. Use a nice bold simple font to create the info for the work and attached it neatly to the three by 3 by 5 card.
If a student is displaying any 3 dimensional type of art work like a sculpture, then the student must provide a platform for the art to sit on. This could be a box covered in black paper. The idea is to give the art something nice to sit on.
Each student is responsible for setting up their display for this event.
Students will receive a grade for this based on meeting all the requirements of displaying their art work.
