PostSubject: Art Homework 4/12   Tue 05 Apr 2016, 8:47 pm

Hi all,

I wanted to give you a heads up on when the extra credit art project is due. There is a Shine program scheduled April 26th at 6:30 pm. As I mentioned  a few weeks ago in class and also in the homework post from 3/29 your participation in that event is the extra credit project for this quarter. Take some time to review that info. For the art work you want to be a part of the display that is separate from the art projects from class, you can start bringing that work in for me to give my okay on it. Next week I will bring in an example of what your art display should look like.

On another note I know that this last quarter is going by quickly and you have a lot on your plate as far as homework goes. I want to emphasize again how important it is that you stay on top of the homework you have for art class, and make every effort to get it turned in on time if possible. I  want to get your work graded and back to you, so that when we get to our last day of class, there is no work that has to be turned in or graded. We won't have the luxury of making work up in the next quarter. If you aren't able to be in class and miss an assignment, it is going to be up to you to get whatever material or info about the assignment you need to complete it from me.

For next week:

1. Finish the triangle abstract on the black paper. Try to show different values with your white colored pencil in this exercise.

1. Go to http://thevirtualinstructor.com/white-on-black.html  View this video tutorial about drawing tips with a white colored pencil on black paper. The instructions also include using white charcoal, however for your drawing you will be using a white colored pencil.

2. Do a search on black and white images of any mammal or bird. make sure it is a head shot. Draw that animal on the black paper you received in class and be sure to show the different values you see in the photo. This will be accomplished with the amount of pressure you apply with the pencil for the different values.

3. Next week we will start working on the sculptures you started in class. Here is a list of artist's work to choose from. Once you figure out which painting you like, you will recreate it as a 3D sculpture. You will need either a print out of the work or some reference of the artists work to refer to for this project. You will need to bring that reference with you. The goal will not be that you recreate the entire painting on the sculpture. You will focus on a portion of the painting and think about how best to represent it in a 3D form.

The Great Wave of Kanagawa - Hokusai
The Starry Night - Van Gogh
The Scream - Edvard Munch
Seated Woman (Marie Therese) - Picasso

4. Bring your sketchbook, notebooks and art supplies including your paints and brushes.
